Is this you?
When a tooth needs to come out
These are the reasons people usually come to see us. If one of them sounds like you, we can help.
A painful or badly decayed tooth
It's past saving and it's keeping you awake. Taking it out is often the quickest way to stop the pain.
A wisdom tooth causing trouble
Impacted, half through, or sore again and again. We'll scan it and plan the safest way to remove it.
A tooth broken at the gumline
There's little left to grip, so it needs a planned surgical approach rather than a routine appointment.
A root canal that hasn't settled
The pain or infection keeps coming back, and you've been told the tooth can't be saved.
Swelling or pain that won't shift
The area is sore, tender to bite on, and painkillers aren't holding it any more. Call us the same day.
A tooth another dentist wouldn't remove
Too awkward, too close to a nerve, or too broken down. That's a sensible referral, not bad news.

Frequently asked questions
Does a tooth extraction hurt?
No — the area is fully numbed with a local anaesthetic beforehand, so you shouldn't feel any pain, only gentle pressure. We take extra time with anxious patients to make sure you feel completely at ease.
How long does the procedure take?
A simple extraction often takes just a few minutes. Surgical and wisdom tooth removals may take a little longer, but most appointments are completed within 30–45 minutes including preparation.
What is the recovery like?
Most people feel back to normal within a few days. We'll give you clear aftercare instructions and are always at the end of the phone if you have any concerns during healing.
Can I be seen the same day if I'm in pain?
Yes. We keep emergency appointments free each day for urgent cases across Swiss Cottage, Hampstead and Belsize Park. Call us and we'll do our best to see you the same day.
Will I need time off afterwards?
Most people return to their normal routine the same or next day. We'll advise you on what to expect based on your specific extraction, and give you clear guidance on eating, resting and caring for the area while it heals.
What if I am nervous?
Tell us when you get in touch and we will plan the appointment around it. We explain each step before we do it, agree a signal so you can stop us whenever you need to, and keep things unhurried. Being frightened of this is common and it is not something you need to apologise for.
Do I need a referral from my own dentist?
No. You can contact us directly and book an assessment yourself. If you were referred by your dentist that is helpful and we will keep them informed, but it is not a requirement.
What if my own dentist said the tooth was too difficult?
That is one of the most common reasons people come to us, and it is a sensible referral rather than bad news. A dentist declining to remove a tooth in a routine appointment usually means it needs proper imaging, more time, and a planned surgical approach. We will assess it and tell you honestly what is involved.
What happens to the gap afterwards?
You have options: an implant, a bridge, a denture, or in some cases leaving the gap, which can be reasonable for a tooth at the very back. Because where the tooth sat affects the teeth either side and the bone underneath, it is worth discussing the replacement at the same assessment rather than months down the line.
Book your extraction assessment
Leave us your details and we will get back to you as soon as possible. There is no obligation, and we will not pressure you into treatment — the assessment is there so you can decide with the facts in front of you.
